A Warm Welcome for Dogs and Their Owners

From the very beginning, Riverdale was designed with dog lovers in mind. We are passionate about dogs of all shapes and sizes, and we know first-hand how tricky it can be to find a place that welcomes more than one furry companion. Here, your dogs are part of the family, and we’ve made sure they feel right at home.

Each of our Scandinavian-style lodges has fenced decking, giving your dog the freedom to roam safely while you relax. We've also recently added a heated dog wash and grooming area, complete with shampoo, towels, and brushes, perfect after a day exploring the countryside.

If you are looking for dog-friendly lodges in Yorkshire that truly welcome dogs, Riverdale is the perfect choice.

Dog-Friendly Design, Inside and Out

Step inside and you’ll find that the lodges have been designed to make your stay as stress-free as possible. Each lodge has a decked, fenced-off area with secure gates, so you can throw open the double doors and let your dog enjoy the fresh air in a safe, enclosed space.

We only ask for one thing: dogs should stay out of the bedrooms, ensuring a clean and comfortable space for everyone.

One of the best parts of staying at Riverdale is the endless adventure right outside your door. There is a beautiful 1.5-mile walk starting straight from the accommodation, leading you along the river, through a bluebell wood, and on to the village pub, a favourite route for guests and their dogs alike. For those who fancy a longer stretch, there’s a 12-mile loop to Masham along the River Ure and through scenic woods, with a perfect stop for fish and chips or a browse at the local market.

With riverside strolls and woodland adventures so close, Riverdale is ideal for dog-friendly holidays in Yorkshire.

Relaxation for You, Fun for Them

While your dog enjoys new sights and smells, you can take time for yourself. Riverdale offers a traditional Finnish sauna and invigorating cold plunge, set in the heart of nature, giving you a unique way to relax and recharge. Whether you are easing tired muscles after a day of walking or simply looking to unwind, the sauna and cold plunge area is a perfect addition to your stay.

Loved by Dogs and Their Owners Alike

We’re proud to have many four-legged guests who return to Riverdale year after year, tails wagging as soon as they arrive. Their owners love the gentle sound of the river, the ease of walking straight from their accommodation, and the simple pleasure of a break where there’s no need to get back in the car.

With more people choosing UK breaks based on how dog-friendly a destination is, Riverdale has become a popular choice. As dog ownership has grown and staycations have become more popular, demand for truly dog-welcoming places has never been higher. We are proud to be one of the few luxury dog-friendly stays in the UK that welcomes up to two dogs as standard. For guests travelling with more, our Lapwing Lodge and Kingfisher Lodge can accommodate up to three dogs by arrangement.

Tips for Holidaying with Your Dog in the UK

Planning a trip with your dog is exciting, but a little preparation can help make it even more enjoyable for you both. Here are a few tips to make the most of your dog-friendly getaway:

  1. Pack Their Essentials
Bring your dog’s usual food, bowls, lead, collar with ID tag, and bed or blanket to help them settle in. Familiar scents can make a new place feel more like home. If you don't have the space, you can add the extra dog package at checkout and we will put the beds and bowls in for you.

  2. Keep Them Safe, Cool, and Comfortable in the Car
When travelling longer distances, it’s important to keep your dog safe and comfortable. Use a seatbelt harness, travel crate, or pet barrier to secure them properly. Plan regular breaks to stretch their legs, offer fresh water, and let them cool down. A collapsible water bowl is ideal for the car. If your dog gets anxious on car journeys, one of our dog-owner friends here at Riverdale recommends Vetiq Healthy Treats Calming for Dogs - a gentle way to help calm nervous pooches on the move.

  3. Plan Dog-Friendly Days Out
Check ahead to find local walks, dog-friendly pubs, cafés, and attractions. Many beaches and parks welcome dogs, but it’s worth double-checking seasonal restrictions.

  4. Respect Local Rules
Always follow local guidelines, especially in countryside areas where there might be livestock or wildlife. Keep your dog on a lead when required, and always clean up after them.

  5. Prepare for the Weather
The British weather can be unpredictable. Pack a quick-dry towel, water for long walks, and maybe even a doggy raincoat if your pet isn’t a fan of the rain.

  6. Book Pet-Friendly Accommodation Early
Dog-friendly stays are in high demand, especially in popular areas like Yorkshire. Booking early ensures you find somewhere that not only allows dogs, but welcomes them - like Riverdale.
