A Guide to an Autumn Escape in the North Yorkshire Countryside

Two girls in country attire walking through the field at autumn time

As the seasons turn from summer to autumn, we’re invited to slow down and embrace the changing landscape around us. And where better to make the most of the golden season, than tucked away in the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside with your favourite people.

Our little corner of North Yorkshire sits alongside the River Ure. With cosy safari tents, wild countryside and plenty to explore, right on the doorstep, it’s the perfect place to bring your friends or family together for a long autumn break.

Think long walks through golden woodland, warming up in the sauna, braving the cold plunge, then settling around the fire with a glass of wine and a game of cards. Exactly how an escape to the countryside should be.

Here’s our guide to an autumn escape at Riverdale:

Make yourself at home

Put the kettle on, get the fire roaring and settle into your home away from home for the next few days. Our safari tents are spacious retreats, each with their own private terrace and garden, overlooking the fields and woodland beyond. It’s glamping with a few added luxuries, from electric blankets and piping hot showers to a wood-burning stove for cosy evenings spent together.

Outside, there’s a fire pit for marshmallow toasting, a BBQ for easy dinners and plenty of space to sit back, relax and take in the views.

A cosy little base for a few days of countryside adventures.

A little R&R

A trip to our private sauna and cold plunge should definitely make it onto your itinerary. Perched beside the River Ure, it’s a lovely spot to spend an hour or two.

Settle into the warmth of the sauna and look out through the window that perfectly frames the changing colours of the woodland and the river below.

Then, when you’re feeling brave, step outside and take the plunge. Cold, refreshing and guaranteed to wake you up.

The best bit? You’re surrounded by nature. The sound of the river, the changing colours of autumn and a little time to just sit, chat and enjoy where you are.

Book the entire sauna for yourself, as a couple or with friends and family, and enjoy 90 minutes of uninterrupted R&R.

Get out and explore

You can’t come all this way and not get out exploring. Riverdale is surrounded by some seriously beautiful countryside, and with autumn’s golden embrace it becomes even more spectacular.

Pull on your boots and head out for a long walk in the crisp autumn air  at Hackfall Woods, follow the paths around Nosterfield Nature Reserve or head into the Yorkshire Dales for bigger views and a proper day out. There’s no shortage of places to wander, especially when the leaves are turning and the countryside is putting on a show.

Fancy taking things a little slower? Head into Masham or Ripon for a potter around the shops, a coffee and cake, or a cosy pub lunch.

And for a bigger day out, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal are well worth a visit.

There’s plenty of adventures and places to explore just a stones throw from our little corner of North Yorkshire. Discover more about our location, here > .

A few days well spent

An autumn escape at Riverdale doesn’t need a packed itinerary. It’s an invitation to roam, wander and reconnect with the outdoors (and your favourite people).

Let the days be shaped by the river. Long walks, fireside evenings and moments that remind you how good it feels to slow down.

We can’t wait to welcome you to our little corner of North Yorkshire.
